Sunrise Ridge Park
San Ramon, CA
Sunrise Ridge Park is a 12.7-acre park located in the Preserve Neighborhood of northeast San Ramon. The park features a nature-themed all-abilities playground, a bocce ball court, group picnic areas, a full-sized basketball court, tennis courts, a synthetic turf soccer field, and a diamond field. Additional site amenities include two prefabricated restrooms, a 0.7-acre rose garden, and a perimeter trail that offers visitors scenic views of the surrounding hills.
GATES served as the prime consultant for this project, providing master planning, design development, construction documentation, and administration services.
This project was completed in 2024.
Key Considerations
A Hillside Topography
GATES collaborated with geotechnical engineers and environmentalists to analyze the hillside and the adjacent residential neighborhoods. This analysis aimed to ensure adequate tree screening for sound reduction and privacy, as well as to minimize light pollution affecting nearby residences at night.
Preserving Environmental Assets
Environmental consultants worked with the team to appropriately remove and replace existing oak trees while preserving the on-site wetland. This approach minimizes conflicts with local wildlife and helps to conserve important environmental assets.
Access
The park design allows for police, emergency vehicles, and other types of access to the site, ensuring compliance with current safety standards.
Making it Happen
A Play Area for All Ages and Abilities
The vibrant playground features a variety of climbing structures, swings, and spinning elements by Ross Recreation, all set on poured-in-place rubber surfacing. Sensory-rich zones support active, passive, and inclusive play experiences for children of all abilities. Comfortable seating with clear sightlines allows parents and caregivers to easily observe and supervise children in a safe, engaging environment.
