What we do

Gates Studio is a group of landscape architects, urban designers, and planners driven by our mission to get people outside. We partner with a wide range of clients to plan, design, and implement beautiful, climate-adapted landscapes that enhance user experience of a space and provide public benefit to the community. 

As landscape architects and designers, we work where creativity meets science and engineering. No two days look alike—one day we’re picking plants, mapping circulation patterns, designing play areas for kids, or planning a gathering space that serves many purposes. The next, we’re pulling together clear instructions and technical details to ensure everything gets built the right way. We might host a community meeting to hear what neighbors need, shape the layout of a campus quad, create an illustrative plan to share our design vision, or bring new life to a neglected site with a rain garden.

We are passionate about cultivating a wide breadth of outdoor spaces that bring people closer to nature—and to each other. Our goal is to design welcoming, inclusive places that feel true to the character of each unique site while caring for and enhancing its natural resources.
