The San Jose VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), part of the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System, comprises administrative support and medical clinic spaces for primary care, mental health, ancillary, and diagnostic services. As Project Landscape Architect with prime consultant Hoefer Welker, Gates Studio created a strong, welcoming arrival experience with a dought-tolerant, showy landscape palette that complements the intended inclusive, healing environment that encourages human connection to the natural environment. The team also incorporated a memorial plaza and an art wall, in honor of Veterans and their service.

Visitors are welcomed by a memorial plaza framed by a striking plant palette, showcasing a lit art feature that pays tribute to Veterans and their service.
The views from the new LEED Silver-certified 95,000 SF building are enhanced with courtyard accent planting.
Pedestrian-friendly landscaping encircles the new building.
