Lila Bringhurst Community Park & School
Fremont, CA
A compact, connected open space in the heart of Fremont’s Innovation District
GATES Studio collaborated with QKA Architects to design a 4-acre joint-use site serving both Lila Bringhurst Elementary School and the surrounding Warm Springs Innovation District. This compact, transit-connected park meets both school and public recreation standards, supporting daily use by students and nearby residents.
Key features include play areas, a multi-use field, a butterfly garden, a loop trail, and an expanded hardcourt—all designed to encourage learning, play, and neighborhood connection in a walkable urban setting.
This project was completed in 2021.

The curved amphitheater mirrors the oval shaped grass lawn and may be used as outdoor classroom

The park play area, which directly interfaces with the campus, features age-appropriate zones and inclusive play features like the spinning Global Motion®.

Community members can access an expanded hardcourt area with shaded picnic area adjacent to half basketball courts.

Through extensive collaboration with the DSA, a community restroom at park is accessible only during peak use periods

GATES led the design of the outdoor spaces for the adjacent elementary school, which are centrally located within the surrounding two-story classroom buildings.

The shaded outdoor dining area doubles as a flexible gathering space.
